Anchor Inn and Stores
The Anchor Inn and Stores is – well, an all-in-one little building. It’s a three-in-one building with a restaurant, a landromat, a few bedrooms to crash in if you so please, some public telephones (because cell reception is terrible in Whittier), and night time entertainment found in the Overview Lounge – whatever that means. It has an attached grocery store which has nearly every amenity you’d expect from a grocery store! How nice! It’s run by an elderly Taiwanese couple; the man often runs the store while the wife runs the restaurant and a small group of workers mans the rest.
An access tunnel connects the Anchor Inn’s grocery to the Begich Towers so you do not have to go outside during the winter time.
